Raymond Edward Tierney, aged 88 years passed away on Monday December 26, 2016 at the Woodview Estates facility in Mays Landing, New Jersey. Ray was born on January 23, 1928 in East Orange, New Jersey. He served in the US Navy for 20 years. He lived in Trenton, Key West, San Diego, Idaho Falls, Quaker Hill and Windsor Connecticut, Long Valley New Jersey and finally Long Beach Island and Little Egg Harbor New Jersey. Raymond was a WW II and Korean War Veteran and a graduate of the Navy's Nuclear Engineering School under the stewardship of Admiral Rickover. Ray retired from the Navy in 1964 after 20 years of service. He served on many submarines including USS Capitaine, USS Cobia, USS Chievo, USS Besugo, USS Steelhead and his last tour was on USS Ethan Allen from christening to his revetment in August 1964. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for PSE&G in Salem, New Jersey as a Nuclear Technical Quality Control Engineer.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Sabina ""Sally"" B. Tierney in 1994.
He is survived by his loving sons Joseph and Michael Tierney and their wives Elly and Marcy, his grandchildren Ryan Tierney and wife Gwen and Caitlin Tierney and nieces Patricia Bates Trotta and Barbara D'Annunzio.
Viewing will be held on Thursday December 29, 2016 from 9 to 11am at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Road Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087. Burial will follow at Harbourton Cemetery, Lambertville, NJ at 1:30pm.
