Close family surviving him include: brother-in-law Helmuth Hockenmaier (Lot Lot) and sister-in-laws Carol Schenkel and Helen Lupardo (Charles); and nieces and nephews Paolo, Christopher, Mark (Rania, Mark & Emma), Concetta (Rodson, Marina & Giorgia), Mary (Christian, Madeline & Tommy), Kim (Tim & Carter), and Charles Jr.; cousins Mary Accardi, Frank (Eileen) and numerous other cousins in Boston.
He was predeceased by parents Rosario and Maria, daughter Karen Marie, brother Frank, brother-in-laws Werner Hockenmaier and Wilfried Schenkel, nephew Angelo Lupardo, and countless friends over many years.
Nickolas was born on March 15, 1932 in Brooklyn and met his wife Eleanor in Ridgewood, Queens, where they married and resided for several years. They then moved to Albertson, NY to raise their family. They enjoyed living in retirement in Little Egg Harbor, NJ for nearly 20 years.
Nickolas was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved family more than anything in the world. He will be remembered for always expressing his affection, often with tight-squeeze hugs, and for constantly getting in trouble with his wife Eleanor. He was a draftsman for Perotto firm and the New York City Transit Authority for over 40 years and famously loved his job. He was an avid Brooklyn Dodgers and then New York Mets fan, and was often seen playing cards with friends and family, and in Atlantic City (when he won money, it belonged to Eleanor). He was active in his Roman Catholic faith and was a member in the Knights of Columbus.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Nickolas' name to the nursing home where he spent his last days, and where his wife currently resides: Seacrest Village, 1001 Center Street, Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087.
