Mary Concetta Janish, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Southern Ocean Medical Center while her daughter was by her side. Mary was 86 years old. She is a retired secretary for the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office where she worked for 24 years.
Mary, or ""Dolly"", as she was affectionately known, was born in Passaic, NJ and graduated from Clifton High School. After high school, Mary joined the Women's Army Corps and spent time overseas while with the military. She was a Korean War Veteran.
After retirement, Mary kept herself busy bar tending at the American Legion Post 493 in Little Egg Harbor, where she was also a former Sgt. of Arms, and past Ocean County Vice Commander. She was a member of the Women's Army Corps Veterans Association where she served as Lieutenant of the Honor Guard for many years, and the VFW Post #316. She participated in many parades as part of the Honor Guard, and especially enjoyed traveling to Washington D.C. in order to carry the flag for Veterans Day Services at Arlington. She loved being in the company of fellow veterans.
Mary also loved spending time with her family, her Legion friends, and her dog Cher. Mary would be happy to know that her beautiful dog is now living with a loving friend of hers.
Mary is survived by her loving children John Swank of Highland Lakes, NJ, Beverly Tromm and husband William of Beach Haven, NJ, and Joseph Janish and wife Kathleen of Garden City, NY. She is also survived by grandchildren John Swank Jr. and his wife Kasia, Jennifer Swank, Jason Swank, Jodie Alexander and her husband Dabne, Justin Swank, Giacomo Ciminello, Alyssa Tromm, Kylie and Declan Janish, as well as 18 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Mary's life. One will be held on Sept. 25, 2019 at the American Legion Hall Post #493, 420 Radio Road, Little Egg Harbor Twsp., NJ, between the hours of 2pm and 6pm. Another celebration of her life will be on Sept. 26, 2019 at the American Legion Post #174, located at 55 Boonton Tpke, Wayne, NJ, between the hours of 5pm and 9pm. On September 27, 2019, the American Legion Riders from Post #174 & 493 will be escorting her ashes to Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd, Wrightstown, NJ for her military graveside service and interment at 12:30pm.
