Joseph Peter Koptic, Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Born on September 3, 1935 to Катерина Makcиmehko (predeceased) and Joseph Koptic (predeceased) in Brooklyn, NY. Joe was the second of six children: Donald (predeceased), Barbara (predeceased), Helen, Mary Martha and James. He was called to home on August 25, 2024, just shy of his 89th birthday, after a very long illness.
In his youth, Joe was a Golden Gloves boxer (lightweight class) and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Army, he fought in the Korean War alongside his brother Donald. Being Honorably Discharged as a Disabled Veteran, Joe started his life-long journey marrying Migdalia (Mindy) Banuchi Koptic in 1958.
During his lifetime, Joe worked as an Emergency Room Administrator for St. John’s Hospital in Brooklyn, while enjoying summers and weekends in Little Egg Harbor from 1966 and permanently making it their family home in 1968. He worked for the Atlantic City Hospital Emergency Room as an Administrator. He bred AKC Weimaraner dogs which were trained to be devoted family pets and avid bird hunters. He was a Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) for Colonial Life Insurance, past LEH Elementary School Board Member and was elected as Mayor of Little Egg Harbor Township in 1977 and subsequently retired as its Municipal Finance Officer. In his retirement years, Joe was Owner and Operator of Visions Homes and KMS Tree Farm as well as a Board Member and past Vice-President of the Little Egg Harbor MUA.
On weekends one would find Joe applying his auto mechanic skills keeping the family vehicles in tip-top running order, teaching his daughters to do the same. He had a strong commitment to family, friends and volunteerism. As a parent volunteer for the Buccaneer Drum & Bugle Corps, he drove its members to and from weekly competitions, was a life-time member of the then Tuckerton First Aid Squad, American Legion, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Charter Member of St. Theresa Council, Long Beach Island Chapter Mason, LEH Republican and Redman’s Clubs. He also enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting.
In addition to his wife Mindy of 66 years, Joe leaves behind two daughters: Karen Marie Koptic (Christopher D. Storcella, predeceased) and Joy Ann Koptic (MacDonald). Joe adored his grandchildren, David John (DJ) MacDonald, Colin Catherine MacDonald and Shannon Frances Storcella as well as his many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to a charity of your choice in Joe’s name.
