John Joseph Mandela, 81 of Rahway, NJ passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. John was born in Elizabeth, NJ and lived in Rahway for over 50 years.
He was a talented mechanic and maintenance technician, who worked professionally on automobiles, photo finishing, and manufacturing equipment. He most recently worked for Des-L Industries in Irvington, NJ. John was a member and three time Worshipful Master of Cornerstone-Tyrian Masonic Lodge #229 which merged into Lafayette Masonic Lodge #27 in Rahway. John enjoyed spending time working around the house, yard, on automobiles, and was a classic car and muscle car enthusiast. He was particularly proud of his Ford Mustang GT convertible. John loved sharing meals, coffee, dessert, and conversation with his family and friends.
John was predeceased by his mother Helen Mandela.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Carol Mandela, children Eric J. Mandela, and Christen E. Mandela of Rahway. Sons John S. Mandela and wife Monica of Linden, NJ, and Joseph A. Mandela of Jefferson City, TN. He is also survived by grandchildren Melissa, Jessica and Jenna, and great grandchildren, Emmanuel, Antonio, and Celine.
There is a memorial mass scheduled for Saturday, January 14th at 10am at
St. John the Apostle Church

Linden, NJ 07036
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial repast luncheon and celebration of John’s life independent of whether they attend the mass.
The repast will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 11:30am at
Bistro 1051
1051 Raritan Road
Clark, NJ, 07066
