John J. Galligan

John J. Galligan, 89 of Barnegat, NJ passed away at home on Saturday March 2^nd, 2024. John was born, raised and grew up in Newark, NJ and spent time living in Maplewood, NJ, over 30 years in Forked River, NJ and has lived in Barnegat, NJ for the last 2.5 years. John was a St. Benedicts Prep High School graduate class of 1953 and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball in his younger years. He retired after a successful 38 year long career in 1991 as a Systems Analyst from NJ Bell Phone Company in the Freehold Data Center. John was a boat captain and enjoyed taking his family out boating, deep sea fishing and he would even travel to Florida on his boat. He used to own and would ride his motorcycle, was an avid skier and loved travelling in his Airstream trailer. Everything John did he did BIG, and he was determined to do something if he set his mind to it. 

John was predeceased by his parents John and Bernice Galligan, his first wife Ellen Nora Galligan, his sister Joan Mokris and his in-laws William and Lorraine Stephens.

He is survived by his loving wife Joyce of 40 years, daughter Kathleen (Timothy) Riordan of Annandale, NJ, son John “Jack” (Mary) Galligan of Annandale, NJ, grandsons Casey (Gina) Galligan, Ryan (Michelle) Galligan and Kevin Galligan, great-grandchildren Charlotte, John “Jacky”, Liam and another baby girl on the way, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Michael Mokris, Jean (Bill) Colarusso, Joan (Robert) Lethem, William (Wendy) Stephens, Gail Stephens and Thomas Stephens, 17 nieces and nephews and 27 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Cremation will be private and a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place at Bayside Chapel 965 W. Bay Ave. Barnegat, NJ 08005 on Sunday April 7th, 2024 at 3pm.
