Joan Simpson

Joan Simpson, 91, of Newark, Delaware passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Joan spent time living in Woodbury, NJ, West Deptford, NJ, and Tuckerton, NJ before moving to Newark, DE 15 years ago. Joan was previously a telephone operator before working with her husband William at Bill’s Market in Westville, NJ. She was a deacon and choir member at Central Baptist church in Woodbury, and a choir member and member of the women’s club at United Methodist church in Tuckerton. She enjoyed spending time with her family and many grandchildren.

Joan was predeceased by her husband William H. Simpson Jr., parents Robert and Dorothy Hopkins, sister Anne Hopkins, and grandson Adam Heaney.

She is survived by her son William H. Simpson III of Myrtle Beach, SC, daughters Joanne Heaney and husband Robert of Turnersville, NJ, Bobbi Nesemann and husband Andreas of Newark, DE, and Allyson Kohler and husband David of Tuckerton, NJ, brothers Robert Hopkins, Ernest Hopkins, and Paul Hopkins, grandchildren Mallory, Emily, Tyler, Spenser, David and Emma, and great-grandchildren Charlie, Clark, Henry, Eloise and Mila.

Services will be private and under the care of Maxwell Funeral Home.
