Bennet—Janice Marie Caffrey, 97, died on October 4, 2022 at her Little Egg Harbor residence with her children and grandchildren by her side. Janice was born June 5, 1925 in Newark, NJ to parents Terrence Leo and Elsie (Smith) Caffrey. A treasured only child, Janice was raised in Newark, NJ, summered at the Jersey Shore and graduated from Barringer High School before attending St. Elizabeth College. After raising her family in South Orange, NJ, Janice became a paralegal for many years before retiring to Little Egg Harbor. Janice was a great supporter of Seton Hall Prep and University, an avid NY sports fan, a long-time volunteer at Southern Ocean County Hospital, president of the Mystic Shores Homeowners Association, (while a singer in the Mystic Shores Singers which she started), Volunteer Coordinator at Seacrest Village Nursing Home, and a founding member and president of the Residents’ Committee at The Terraces Assisted Living where she enjoyed the music, games, trips and the companionship of her many friends and, of course, her Perfect Manhattans. Janice was predeceased by her first husband Joseph B. Caffrey and her second husband Wilton J. Bennet with whom she happily travelled the world. Janice is survived by her beloved children Joseph (Wanda) of Onancock, VA, Paul of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, Martin of Toms River, NJ, Christine Buchner (Stephen) of Boca Raton, FL, Linda of East Windsor, NJ, Thomas of Tuckerton, NJ, Carolyn Tuchman (Robert) of New York, NY, and Claire Criscuolo (Steven) of Westfield, NJ and her cherished step-children JoyAnn Murray, Mark Bennet, Barbara Bennet and grandchildren Brittley Fitchett, Kristen Campbell, Ryan Caffrey, David Caffrey, Allison Berndt, Lauren Isbrandtsen, Marc Buchner, Bryan Buchner, Kevin Caffrey, Maureen Caffrey, Alex Tuchman, Sarah Tuchman, Tara Criscuolo, James Criscuolo, Julia Criscuolo, Daniel Criscuolo and David Criscuolo, and great-grandchildren Jake Campbell, Olivia Campbell, Reese Berndt, Reagan Berndt, Sloane Isbrandtsen, Ryann Buchner, Brody Buchner, Lucy Buchner, and Jack Buchner all of whom gave her great joy. Her stepson, Wilton J. Bennet, Jr. predeceased her. Janice’s love of life, common sense, and kindness will be missed by all who knew her. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial Mass to celebrate Janice’s life and many accomplishments on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 10:00 at St. Theresa Church, 450 Radio Road, Little Egg Harbor, NJ where she had been a volunteer for many years. Her interment at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers kindly make donations in Janice’s name to Little Sisters of the Poor or a charity of your choice.
