George R. Beck of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away at the age of 101 on July 26, 2023. He died peacefully and was surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in Mulhouse, France, and after surviving WWII he immigrated to the US in 1947. He and his wife, Jacqueline, raised their two children in Margate, NJ. As a member of Local 54, he worked as a server and maitre d’ in exclusive hotels & restaurants in Atlantic City before the start of the casino industry. In later years he drove a jitney in town. After retiring he moved to Florida in 1990, and in 2010 moved back to Little Egg Harbor, NJ where he and Jackie settled in Sunrise Bay to be closer to family.
George lived a very healthy, active life. He enjoyed keeping busy by playing futbol, biking, traveling, writing to his friends in France, reading, and going to dinner. He loved animals, black and white movies, collecting stamps, and entertaining friends. Later in life, he published a biography called “Forced to War”. He was known as Poppop by all, and would do anything for his family.
George is predeceased by his parents Raymond and Georgette Beck, brother Lucien, and wife Jaqueline. He is survived by his daughter Nancy Beck of Hainesport, NJ, daughter Sandi Miller of Long Beach Twp, NJ, granddaughter Kristi (Billy Deren), granddaughter Brielle (Jay Hoffacker), great grandchildren Chase, Bryce, Kaylan, and Noah.
Cremation will be private. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 10 am-12 pm at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Road Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of George.
