Elaine Hope Savage, 85, of Parkertown, NJ passed away on Monday November 27th, 2023. Elaine was born in the Bronx, NY in 1938. The family moved to South Amboy, NJ when she was three and was raised there. Elaine lived in the Amboys for many years before spending 12 years living in Cranbury, NJ, then finally settling down in a log house she built with her own hands in Parkertown in 1986.
Elaine graduated from Hoffman High School in 1955 and continued her education, obtaining her undergrad degree at (then) Newark State Teachers College (now Kean University) in 1959 and followed-up with a master’s degree from Rutgers University. She worked as a teacher for many years at the Jamesburg, Sayreville and Little Egg Harbor Township school districts. She then went on to work for the Ocean County Library in Toms River, NJ. Elaine was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in Little Egg Harbor, NJ and sang in their choir for many years. She was a past member of the Manahawkin Moose Lodge, enjoyed helping with local Girl Scouts troops when her daughters were growing up, and used to love singing with her friends during the summer at various places on Long Beach Island, NJ. She was an avid sports enthusiast, a born and raised New York Football Giants fan, and outstanding basketball player in high school and college.
Elaine was predeceased by her parents Justus Charles and Mary Elizabeth Nelson, her husband James John Savage and nephews Guy and Michael.
She is survived by her loving daughters Mary Savage of Parkertown, NJ and Jeanne Savage of Parkertown, NJ/Miamisburg, OH, sister Aurina “Rene” Owens of Easton, PA, nephews Gary (wife Nancy), John (wife Elisa) and Christopher, nieces Laura, Linda (husband Ron), and Kathy along with numerous grandnieces and nephews.
Cremation was held privately. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s R.C. Church on 26 April 2024 at 1100. A repast will follow at Calloway's Restaurant 597 Main Street West Creek, NJ.
