PILCHARD, CHARLES EDWARD - lived to the fine young age of 80 years. He lived a wonderful life. He was born in the small mountain town of Terra Alta, West Virginia and was the proud son of Lloyd and Daphene. He lived his formative years there, hunting, fishing, playing trumpet in the high school band and driving his father's Buick over 100 miles an hour before finishing school at Terra Alta High. He lettered in basketball, baseball and football. He attended the University of West Virginia where he met the love of his life, a New England girl, Melissa Meyer. Together they transferred to the University of Maryland where they finished their college educations and began their 60 year future of life together as husband and wife. They moved to Maryland, then East Hampton, Massachusetts where their first son Edward Benjamin was born. Chuck was building a career in marketing, and they soon moved to Greenfield, Massachusetts, where their second son Benjamin Charles was born. Finally settling in Newtown, Connecticut in 1974, he spent the next 30 years patiently raising the boys, loving Melissa and marching up the marketing ladder at the New York Times. While enjoying life in Newtown, he was the chairman of the Democratic town committee, sat on the police commission and drove his boys to any sports activity in which they participated. Chuck and Melissa retired to Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, where they proceeded to travel and see the world and make new found friends. Chuck passed away peacefully on his own terms Monday morning, September 21, 2015 with his loving family by his side. He had a patient, warming and cheerful West Virginia spirit which is now free. But we the Pilchards know he won't be going far, he will be cheering us all on and patiently waiting for the love of his life to join him in never ending peace. Chuck is survived by his beloved wife Melissa of Little Egg Harbor NJ, and sons Edward, Benjamin and his wife Dr. Kirstin Pilchard of Newtown, CT. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2015 from 9:30 until the Memorial service at 10:30 am at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Rd Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087.
