Joseph A. Burns Sr., 85 of the Sea Oaks Section of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away on Thursday September 22, 2011 at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin.  He was born, raised and lived in theBronx, NY before retiring to Little Egg Harbor.  He was a World War II and Korean War Navy Veteran and was a Lieutenant for the New York Police Dept. from where he retired after 32 years of service .  He was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church and was a Friend of the Ocean County Library.  He was a very active man and enjoyed playing Bocce with the Sea Oaks Bocce Team.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Theresa Burns and his brother Walter Burns.  He is survived by his son Joseph A. Burns Jr. and wife Diane, daughter Lois Ciacco and husband Angelo, grandchildren Christine, Joy, Jennifer, Anthony, Angelo, and Jillian and 13 great grandchildren. 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday September 26, 2011 at 9:30am at St. Theresa’s Church, Little Egg Harbor followed by entombment at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River, NJ.   Viewing hours will be held on Sunday September 25 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm and Monday from 8 to 9am at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Rd.
