Christopher “Piney” Scott, age 42, died peacefully on August 12th at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin after a lengthy illness.
Raised on Long Beach Island, Chris loved the outdoors where he enjoyed fishing and duck hunting in the surrounding waters. He was also an avid surfer and as a youngster took 1st Place in the Boys Division of the 3rd Annual Body Language Surf Classic.
Chris’s true avocation was in woodworking. During his brief life he created numerous examples of his art including carved duck decoys, detailed scale models of wooden ships and boats as well as many pieces of hand-made furniture which he generously gave to his family and friends.
Eventually his extraordinary talent in woodworking led him to become an accomplished luthier in Philadelphia where he worked for Superior Guitar Works in the Manayunk section. Christopher’s work repairing, restoring and building guitars and various other stringed instruments was well respected in the music industry.
Besides creating guitars, Chris was also a decent guitar player himself, which landed him jobs playing professionally in places like The Gateway in Ship Bottom and the Dawson Street Pub in Philadelphia.
Chris is preceded in death by his devoted Staffordshire Terrier, “Motor”. He leaves his mother and step-father, Carol & Rick Stevens of Barnegat; his father, Christopher Scott, Sr. of Canutillo, Texas; and three brothers, Brian Scott of Matawan, New Jersey, Tim Stevens of Waialua, Hawaii and Drew Stevens of Barnegat Light, New Jersey.
A visitation is to be held at Maxwell Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ on Sunday, August 14th, from 7-9 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Christopher’s name to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, 2009 Bacharach Blvd., Atlantic City, NJ 08401.
